Description
Archaeological evaluation of a strip of land to be used for the construction of a pipeline between Wellsite F and Wellsite D on the Wytch Farm Oilfield. Work was done in three phases: geophysical survey, recording of surface features and the excavation of trial pits. Soil conditions and the presence of iron object meant that the geophysical survey did not produce data that was sufficiently well defined to allow identification of anomalies of possible archaeological origin and targeting of trial pits. Trial pits were sited in the vicinity of features identified from aerial photographs and surface inspection, to define extent of related areas of archaeology. The number of pits dug was related to the surface area of the easement, with approximately 1 pit per 400m2.
