Description
Nineteen 1m x 1m trial pits were dug in the field, revealing an average depth of soil of 0.80m above natural sand, with a depth of medieval plough preserved and protecting earlier features. Medieval pottery was recovered from twelve of the pits: Trial Pits 056, 055, 054, 065, 066, 067, 053, 068, 064, 052, 050, and 049. Trial Pits 063 and 071 contained parts of a shell midden, and traces of a stone-lined feature were recorded in Pit 067.
