Abstract/Summary

This report contains a summary of the results of an archaeological assessment survey undertaken during August 1987 by the Trust for Wessex Archaeology. The area covered by the survey is that of a proposed temporary soil deposition area adjacent to wellsite B1, in the Wytch Farm Oilfield Development. An archaeological assessment was necessary since it is proposed to strip the area of topsoil prior to dumping. A single field parcel was involved in the assessment, lying between the pre-existing wellsite B1 (to the west), and the proposed main services construction site (to the east). The plot is centred on SY 97458540. It would appear from the results obtained from the trial pits that no part of the assessment zone has been subject to earlier re-landscaping. The eastern field boundary of the assessment area seems to mark the limit of the dumping activity brought to light during archaeological assessment of the main services construction site (TWA 1987).
