Abstract/Summary

AC Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation at 36 High West Street, Dorchester in November 2005. A single trench 2.3m by 1m was excavated in the garden of the property. The trench revealed deep soils overlying archaeological deposits and features of Roman date, including a demolition/ occupation layer with much unabraded pottery, sealing a linear feature cut into the natural chalk. This may have been a robbed out wall trench that was not further excavated at a depth of 1.85m below the ground surface.
