Full Description
A linear feature running roughly N-S was partially exposed during an evaluation in the rear garden of 36 High West Street, Dorchester, undertaken by AC archaeology in 2005 (1) (2). This feature was not fully exposed or excavated. It was cut into the natural chalk and was filled with a dense deposit of yellow mortar in a mid greyish-brown soil matrix. It was sealed by an apparently in situ Roman occupation or demolition layer (2). This feature may be a robbed out wall trench for a Roman building. No dating evidence was recovered.
