Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation for a proposed residential development at the rear of 9 High East Street, Dorchester, was carried out by AC archaeology during June 2005.
The evaluation consisted of two trenches, each measuring 5m x 1m in plan and located at the rear of the property within the former garden.
The evaluation trenches revealed deep soils overlying archaeological deposits and features of Romano-British date, as well as later activity. The main archaeological component comprised part of a known road or town street surface, present in both trenches. This was partly overlain or cut by later activity including a probable former property boundary ditch of probable medieval origin.
