Full Description
Two partial sub-circular banked enclosures on Weam Common Hill, Cerne Abbas, are visible as faint earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The northernmost of the two features is approximately 10m in diameter and is open on its southwest side, possibly indicating the location of an entrance. The southernmost is about 19m by 15m in size and consists of two semi-circular banks and an internal hoolow. An entrance is not certain but could be on either the east or west/southwest sides. The features could possibly be later prehistoric hut circles, perhaps associated with a possible Iron Age/Roman settlement site recorded at this location (MDO722;MDO747). They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
