Description

In March 2024 Cornwall Archaeological Unit (CAU) was commissioned by Historic England (HE) to undertake an aerial investigation and mapping (AI&M) survey of the Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys in Dorset. The project comprised an archaeological survey of 115 sq kms of West Dorset, with 70 sq kms of the project area falling within the Dorset National Landscape. The project took the form of a review of all easily accessible aerial photographs, digital aerial imagery and lidar data for the project area. Digital mapping and database recording of all archaeological features visible on the imagery was undertaken to Historic England’s current AI&M standards and guidance.
