Full Description

A group of barrows and mounds in Seven Barrow Plantation: (2)

'J' - (SY 64749248). Bowl barrow, covered with bushes but no dimensions given (Grinsell's Bradford Peverell No 16; not mentioned by RCHM). (3)

The area in which these barrows lie is so densely covered with trees and undergrowth that it could only be penetrated in part. Mounds 'D','E','F','G','L', and 'M' appear to be bowl barrows and 'C' a long barrow. (4)

An unusual barrow group situated near the crest of a broad south-west spur. The undergrowth which formerly obscured the group and limited investigation has been removed and the north-west half of the area completely cleared of woodland. This part is regularly used as a cattle pen with the consequence that severe damage is incurred by their trampling, especially to the lower monuments. See plan and ground photographs.

'J'. SY 64739247. Abutting and extending northwards from 'H' for 18.5 metres, is a parallel sided mound, 8.0 metres wide overall and 0.9 metres high. It has a flattish top and no traces of side ditches. There is no doubt that it is part of the barrow group but, unlike the long mound 'A', it is eccentrically placed in regard to 'H'; one side merges with that of the round barrow, the other side joins at a midpoint on the circumference. Barrows surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D.

Covered with bushes (Grinsell).
