Description

Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by the Poole Depot of Southern Electric plc to carry out an archaeological watching brief on the replacement of an overhead 33KV cable support pole. The site has been deemed as being of potential archaeological significance due to its proximity to the scheduled monument of Seven Barrows Plantation, consisting of a group of barrows. The replacement cable pole was excavated adjacent and in line to the existing poles, using a wheeled 180ยบ mechanical excavator equipped with a toothed bucket. The socket for the pole measured approximately 4m by 0.5m, and was up to 2m deep. No archaeological features or finds were recovered or identified during the watching brief.
