Summary

Part of an extensive Late Saxon/early medieval oyster shell midden found by excavation adjacent to the Prison, Sarum Street in 1975. It is part of the same oyster shell deposit found under the Town Cellars immediately adjacent.

Full Description

Excavation by Poole Museum Service adjacent to the Prison in Sarum Street to the north of the Town Cellars revealed a deposit of oyster shells.This is part of a more extensive Late Saxon/early medieval midden deposit in the area of the Town Cellars and Paradise Street.
