<1> Edwards, R, 1993, Toller Porcorum High Street. Archaeological Evaluation. (Unpublished document). SDO13911.

‘The position of the platforms raises some questions with regards to the possible holloway which runs through the middle of the field, parallel to the High Street. That the holloway represents the earlier course of the High Street has been suggested (Gale, pers comm). The platform sampled by Test Pit II lies along the edge of the Holloway and so if an earlier, medieval date could be assigned to that platform with post-medieval date for the platform alongside the High Street, that may go some way of (sic) confirming that theory. If the platform along the holloway does look to the holloway as its road, then the position of Test Pit II was at the rear of the property. … The platform upon which Test Pit II was located is interesting for its position alongside the holloway and for the medieval date, which may be tentatively assigned to it from the pottery recovered. The excavation of an area at the east end of this platform would be desirable to ascertain whether there was a building facing the holloway.’
