Summary

The remains of an inhumation were found buried within the partially silted up Middle Bronze Age boundary ditch during the 1987 Dorchester By-pass evaluation by Wessex Archaeology in advance of construction of the Dorchester By-pass. It was removed by machine so its precise position and orientation are not known. Three other burials were found in a similar position within this ditch.

Full Description

Found in the 1987 evaluation trench FR15 at Middle Farm undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in advance of the construction of the Dorchester By-pass(1) (2) (3). The numbers in square brackets below are context and feature numbers used in the report and archive (1) (3).

The burial [SF1] was removed by machine during the excavation of the Middle Bronze Age boundary ditch, so its precise postion and orientation is not known. Its stratigraphic postion can only be approximated but it appeared to have been placed in the partially silted up Middle Bronze Age boundary ditch [03420] in a similar stratigraphic position to the other burials found in this ditch.
