Description

A single trench, 20m long and 1.6m wide, was dug by machine. Topsoil and overburden were removed to a maximum depth of 250mm by a mechanical excavator under archaeological supervision, followed by some cleaning by hand to clarify deposit sequences. This trench revealed no archaeological deposits. There was no evidence for buried military structures in the vicinity of the trench. The author noted that the area appeared undisturbed by any previous building activity associated with the former military structures on the site, or with the present housing estate.
