Description

An archaeological field evaluation, conducted by AC Archaeology on November 16th 2005, examined a parcel of land on the Poundbury West Industrial Estate, Dorchester, Dorset. The site lies close to the Iron Age hillfort of Poundbury Camp and was recently occupied by light industrial buildings, demolished as part of the current redevelopment. Two trenches were excavated, each measuring 10 m in length and 2 m in width and while they failed to uncover any archaeological horizons they did reveal that the site topography, now generally level, originally sloped steeply down to the southeast.
