Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during January and February 1997 at the site of the Tithe Barn, Mill Farm, Abbotsbury. The watching brief was in response to a programme of groundworks associated with the installation of drainage trenches and new paths within the historic core of the Abbotsbury Medieval complex, adjacent to the Tithe Barn. The methodology of the project had been agreed previously by the County Archaeological Service and English Heritage. No works were undertaken within the area of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. No in situ archaeological deposits were disturbed by the works, although a small quantity of artefacts was recovered, including post-Medieval peg tiles and pottery, and a small assemblage of worked flint, including a late Neolithic flake end scraper and a re-touched flake of Portland chert.
