Abstract/Summary

This report contains a summary of two phases of assessment survey carried out during June and September 1987 by the Trust for Wessex Archaeology. The area included in the survey is that of the proposed new wellsite L, in the eastern end of Furzey Island, centred on SZ 01308700. Deposits of a likely archaeological nature occurred in TP nos 105, 112, 114, 115, 116. These can be divided into two zones:- i) Western end of wellsite (TP NOS 115, 116); trial pits located near the surviving earthwork. ii) South-eastern corner of the wellsite (TP nos 150,112,114). Thus it appears that the randomly-located trial pits have demonstrated the survival of deposits adjacent to the enclosure and also located an area of archaeological interest in the SE corner of the wellsite, in the form of subsoil features.
