Description

Evaluation by Wessex Archaeology in two phases consisting of geophysical survey and manual excavation of trial pits. Geophysical survey of two 30m by 30m grids revealed no anomalies likely to be of archaeological origin. Six trial pits were excavated across the lawn, revealing soil profiles of varying depth, possibly associated with landscaping when the house was built in the 1930s, but no archaeological features. Test pit (TP702) on a linear bank within an area covered by rhododendrons produced no dating evidence; archaeologists on site thought the bank likely to be upcast from the adjacent trackway to the east.
