Abstract/Summary
Wessex Archaeology undertook an evaluation of Trinity Street Car Park, Dorchester on the 21st-22nd May 1991.
Two trenches were excavated, one on either side of the standing buildings at right angles to the street frontage. Trench 1 measured 8.7m long and was excavated to a depth of 1.5m revealing a stratigraphic sequence entirely of post 18th century date. Trench 2 was located 4m north of no. 20 Trinity Street and 10m west of the street frontage. It measured 3m long and was excavated to a depth of 1.4m by machine. A modern rubble layer was revealed but not bottomed. It is possible that deposits of greater antiquity survive at depths greater than 1.5m.
