Abstract/Summary

Archaeological excavations on the line of the footings trenches for an extension to the west and south of the Trumpet Major public house, Alington Avenue were undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in September 1987. Eight extended inhumation burials were found, all aligned E-W and provisionally dated to the late Roman period. Several of the graves overlay earlier features but these could not be fully investigated, and their date is unknown.
