Abstract/Summary

‘The County Archaeological Officer recommended a condition requiring archaeological observation and recording during groundworks on this application because of the site’s location in the historic core of Winterborne Stickland. The Dorset County Council Archaeology Service had offered to undertake the work. I visited the site on 29 September 1995. Topsoil had been stripped from the site of the house (in the former garden of Bourneside) and most of the foundation trenches had been excavated. The sections showed that up to 0.3m of topsoil overlay the subsoil, which was weathered chalk. No artefacts of significance or archaeological features were seen.’
