Abstract/Summary

‘A detailed gradiometer survey was conducted over land at Kingston Maurward, Dorchester Dorset (centred on NGR 371750 091170). The project was commissioned by Assetsphere Ltd on behalf of Kingston Maurward Agricultural College (the client) with the aim of establishing the presence, or otherwise, and nature of detectable archaeological features in support of a planning application for the development of the site for the installation of a ground source heating system. The site comprises three pasture fields located at Kingston Maurward, Dorset covering an area of 1.2 ha. The geophysical survey was undertaken on 13 October 2021. The survey has not identified any anomalies that can be confidently interpreted as archaeology. However, a small number of anomalies have been identified as possible archaeology. These are predominantly located in the south-west of the site, including a possible ring-ditch and enclosure. These could evidence further activity within the landscape dating from the Iron Age to the Romano British period. A modern trackway present in 2008 aerial imagery has been identified. It cannot be ruled out that the areas of increased magnetic response limit the detection of further anomalies associated with possible archaeological features in their immediate vicinity.’
