Description
A detailed gradiometer survey was conducted over land at Kingston Maurward, Dorchester Dorset (centred on NGR 371750 091170). The project was commissioned by Assetsphere Ltd with the aim of establishing the presence, or otherwise, and nature of detectable archaeological features in support of a planning application for the development of the site for the installation of a ground source heating system. The site comprises three pasture fields located at Kingston Maurward, Dorset covering an area of 1.2 ha. The geophysical survey was undertaken on 13 October 2021 and has demonstrated the presence of a number of anomalies of potential archaeological interest. The anomalies identified as being of archaeological origin are primarily ditch-like features, including a possible ring-ditch and enclosure. These anomalies are only tentatively interpreted as archaeological in origin. The remaining anomalies are modern in their origin and evidence a former trackway crossing the survey area visible in aerial imagery.
