Abstract/Summary
‘Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd has been appointed by Orion Heritage to undertake a programme of archaeological evaluation on land at New House Farm, Gillingham, Dorset. The evaluation forms part of a staged process of determining the archaeological implications of a proposed housing development. The evaluation comprised no.13 30m x 2m trenches, split across two areas: Area E (Trenches 1-6) and Area F (Trenches 7-13). The works were undertaken between the 2nd – 25th October 2023. The array of trenches targets anomalies of an earlier ground penetrating radar survey (GPR). The evaluation was carried out according to the approved written scheme investigation, characterizing the remains within the targeted areas of the Site. Two areas of archaeological potential were highlighted, both containing the remains of rural medieval structures. The first focused around Trenches 1,2 and 5, the second around Trenches 8 and 9.’
