Abstract/Summary
‘Substrata were commissioned by Cotswold Archaeology in 2024 to undertake an archaeological magnetometer survey of approximately 4.7 hectares of land northwest of Weymouth in southwest Doret. Five anomaly groups were identified, three of these were characterised as potential buried archaeology, the remaining two characterised as modern deposits. A penannular anomaly may be evidence of a prehistoric dwelling or funerary monument. A U-shaped anomaly may be a cut feature of uncertain function. An amorphous dipolar group is probably modern rubbish but may be archaeological industrial waste, based on earlier geophysical survey work to the east. The remaining two anomaly groups are characterised as modern: a linear anomaly may be a land drain and a group of parallel linear anomalies may be further land drains feeding into the former. Interference from overhead powerlines during survey necessitated areas to be avoided and the removal of some data from the plot. Some shipping containers/archery equipment in the northeast corner were avoided.’
