Abstract/Summary
‘I visited this site today to determine whether the proposal was likely to affect a nearby kiln recorded on Ordnance Survey maps (Dorset Sites and Monuments Record – Chickerell no.39).
I was able to identify the location of the proposed stables. This had been cleared of turf. I saw no evidence of archaeological remains in this area, and I suggest, therefore, that there would be no archaeological constraint to take into account for the proposed work.
I was not able to clearly identify the kiln. An area approximately 5m in diameter appears to be slightly higher than the surroundings. This area is partly overgrown, and some rubbish dumping has occurred. I noted a single piece of stone, about 0.25m across, at ground level.’
