Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during construction of the Ansty to Stoke Wake water main (1.74km) by Wessex Water in March 1991. Overall a low level of archaeological deposits was recorded. The main areas of interest comprised two localised dense scatters of pottery (dated 12th/13th century and 15th century) which were revealed after topsoil stripping. There was no evidence that these scatters were directly associated with in site subsoil features but they are indicative of former areas of occupation/settlement.
