Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in relation to a planning application for a proposed residential development. Three mechanically excavated trenches revealed evidence for medieval deposits to a depth of 1.5m below ground level. There was also pottery dating to the 12th to 14th century, metalworking debris, a significant quantity of animal bone from domestic butchery waste mixed with debris from either tanning or glue making. This suggested an association with The Leaze, a deserted medieval settlement located to the south of the proposed site.
