Abstract/Summary

Report on radar survey of pond barrows in Wiltshire and Dorset for which a Section 42 Licence was issued by English Heritage in August 1995. The aim of the survey was to explore the possibility that pond barrows might mark the position of infilled shafts, following the discovery of such a feature under a pond barrow at Wilsford. In Dorset, pond barrows at Winterbourne Abbas and at Upwey were surveyed. Weather conditions were poor, with heavy rain. No buried features were detected that might be interpreted as shafts.
