Abstract/Summary
An assessment of the likely archaeological resource on the site of a proposed rear extension took place as part of the planning process. Data on the heritage assets was collected and considered to form the Assessment. No site visit was undertaken. The survival of archaeological resource was difficult to determine as the amount of ground reduction in the gardens of the property was uncertain. Previous work in the area had indicated that there was potential for Roman deposits and features to survive below medieval and post-medieval agricultural and garden soils up to 0.8m thick above the natural chalk. The assessment concluded that there may be surviving Roman deposits, most probably relating to industrial/agricultural activity.
