EDO6491 - 48 Somerleigh Road, Dorchester; heritage assessment 2018

An assessment of the likely archaeological resource was commissioned by the owner of the site in connection with the planning application for a rear extension. The archaeological and historical background was considered along with reports from previous archaeological fieldwork in the adjacent area of the former County Hospital. These largely provided evidence of Roman settlement. The Assessment concluded that there may have been archaeological features and deposits surviving on the site, mostly likely associated with the Roman Town. These features would mostly probably be relating to industrial/agricultural activity such as yard surfaces, fence lines, pits.
