Abstract/Summary
‘Terrain Archaeology carried out a programme of archaeological observations and recording during reordering works at the Church of St Andrew, West Stafford, Dorset. The remains of a mortar surface was found in the north west corner of the nave, which may be part of the 1640 reconstruction of the church, or later. Outside the church to the north, brick-built steps of eighteenth or early nineteenth century date down into a blocked vault beneath the nave were found. These had been sealed by stone slabs, perhaps in the later nineteenth century. In the eastern part of the churchyard was a disturbed layer, which may relate to the construction of the chancel in 1898-9.’
