Description

Observations and recording during re-ordering works. The remains of a mortar surface was found in the north-west corner of the nave, possibly part of the 1640 reconstruction of the church, though it could be later in date. Outside and to the north of the church brick steps of 18th or early 19th-century date, leading to a blocked vault beneath the nave, were recorded. The steps had been sealed by stone slabs, possibly in the later 19th century. A disturbed layer in the eastern part of the churchyard was though possibly to relate to the building of the chancel in 1898-9.
