Abstract/Summary

‘Terrain Archaeology conducted a watching brief at All Saints’ Church, Wyke Regis (SY66207780) during the construction of a new foul drain in October 2006. The drain ran from the West Tower, westwards across the churchyard and along a footpath to All Saints’ Road, Wyke Regis, Weymouth, Dorset. Three graves were uncovered within the churchyard, one adult and two juveniles. All three were associated with iron coffin nails and one also had two iron coffin handles. All three burials were part of a well-ordered cemetery and though not well dated, are probably post-medieval in date. No other features or deposits of archaeological interest were found elsewhere as in the area of the footpath, the ground had been disturbed by previous services. A small quantity of medieval pottery was recovered from the churchyard soils.'
