Description

Observations and recording during groundworks comprising machine and hand excavation of a trench about 36 metres long and up to 0.6m wide along the footpath from All Saints' Road towards the church, across the western end of the churchyard and through the south-west corner of the tower, and the formation of two manholes. A well-developed graveyard soil and three burials within the churchyard were revealed. The burials were accompanied by fittings suggesting a post-medieval, possibly 17th or 18th century date. Deposits at the point where the trench ran across the footpath were disturbed by a 19th or early 20th-century pipe trench. No significant archaeological deposits were found in this area.
