Title | Archaeological Watching Brief: Hamworthy Link Road, Lower Hamworthy Former Power Station, Poole, Dorset |
Author/Originator | Monteith, J |
Date/Year | 2011 |
Abstract/Summary
Bournemouth Archaeology undertook observations and recording to satisfy a condition of planning consent on a new link road on the site of the former power station at Lower Hamworthy. The watching brief was carried out between 21 February and 7June 2011 and uncovered several features of archaeological significance dating to the Roman period. The features were confined to a relatively small area at the junction of Blandford Road and Rigler Road and consisted of a series of linear cuts and small pits, as well as a substantial pit and a series of deposits sealing the cut features. At least three possible phases of activity were identified, all dating to the Roman period.
