Abstract/Summary

Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Myddleton and Major, on behalf of Adams Bros. (Handley) Limited, to conduct an archaeological evaluation of land situated at the north-western end of the village of Sixpenny Handley (ST 995 172), in advance of proposed development. The evaluation consisted of three machine excavated trenches. The archaeological features revealed were all related to various industrial or manufacturing processes carried out on the site in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Large quantities of modern and nineteenth century artefacts were noted in each of the three trenches. The majority of this material had been deliberately dumped to make-up the ground surface.
