Abstract/Summary

'An archaeological evaluation was carried out by AC Archaeology in August 2010, comprising the excavation of a single trial trench to investigate the reason for differential levels on the north side of the Riding House, Wolfeton, Charminster, Dorset. The information is required prior to the design of new drainage works around the building. Following removal of concrete the trial pit was excavated by hand through a succession of deposits to a maximum depth of c.800 mm below existing ground levels. Natural clay subsoil was located at c. 400 mm depth. Two archaeological features were located; one was the edge of the foundation trench for the north wall of the Riding House, the second was a shallow slot which may have been the foundation trench for an outbuilding.'
