Description
Excavation of a trench to investigate the difference in levels on the north side of the building in order to inform the design of new drainage around the building. After removal of concrete the trial trench was excavated by hand through a succession of deposits to a maximum depth of approximately 800mm below existing ground levels. Natural clay subsoil was reached at a depth of approximately 400mm. Two archaeological features were recorded. One was the edge of the foundation trench for the north wall of the Riding House, and the other was a shallow slot which may have been the foundation trench for an outbuilding.
