Abstract/Summary
'AC archaeology was commissioned to carry out an archaeological evaluation of a parcel of land at Piddletrenthide, Dorset, in advance of the determination of a planning application for residential development. … 5. Conclusion. The excavation of the four evaluation trenches has demonstrated a sequence of activity commencing with a small prehistoric ditch in trench 4 and culminating in the post-medieval structures traces of which were recovered in trenches 1 and 3. Early Medieval features in trenches 1 and 2 together with pottery of a similar date residual in later features indicated that the plot of land was occupied in the centuries immediately after the conquest. It is possible that the medieval pits represent activity towards the rear of the plots fronting onto Church Lane and that associated buildings may have been considerably disturbed by the 18th century structure recorded in trench 3.'
