Abstract/Summary
A watching brief was conducted between 1 December 1995 and 13 December 1996 during goundwortks for a new dwelling at land adjacent to “The Rambler”, Bradford Peverell, Dorset (Grid Reference sy 6611 9283). Two ditches running roughly northwest-southeast (i.e. parallel to the Roman Road from Dorchester to Ilchester) were observed, and pottery and worked flint were recovered from the fill of one ditch. The ditch containing pottery was dated to the 13th-14th Century, but the other could not be dated. Natural chalks were exposed across most of the site by topsoil stripping and cut-and-fill levelling. Observations were terminated with the agreement of Dorset County Archaeologist’s office on 13 December 1996 after foundation trenches for the house and garage and two soakaways had been observed.
