Abstract/Summary
'Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Southern Electric plc to carry out an archaeological watching brief during the refurbishment of existing 11Kv cables at two areas of potential archaeological significance in Dorset; one near Eggardon Hill (centred on NGR SY 548 941) and the other at Up Sydling (centred on NGR SY 620 005).
At Eggardon Hill the cable replacement work comprised burying the cable underground in order to enhance the natural beauty of the area, whilst at Up Sydling the excavation of the sockets for a total of nine replacement poles was observed.
No features or deposits of archaeological significance were observed during the course of the work, with the exception of a potential palaeosol at Up Sydling. No artefacts were recovered.'
