Description
Wessex Archaeology carried out an archaeological watching brief during a development on sites of potential archaeological significance. The development consists of the refurbishment of an 11KV cable at two areas, one near Eggardon Hill and the other at Up Sydling. Excavations in nine locations for overhead cable supports were monitored over a total distance of about 80m. this was done using a wheeled mechanical excavator with a toothed bucket. The pole sockets were approximately 0.2m wide, 0.6m long and up to 2m deep. The watching brief also took place on the excavation of a cable trench measuring about 230m by 0.6m. This trench was excavated in the same way as the previous pole holes. No finds were recovered during the course of this watching brief
