Abstract/Summary

There have been no archaeological features or findspots recorded from the site itself. The site was on the edge of the heathland until it was enclosed in the mid 18th century. There are a number of Bronze Age round barrows on the ridge to the north of the site. It lies on the dge of the river valley close to Waddock Drove, which may be an ancient route. However, any settlement associated with this road and the river valley is more likely to be located under or close to Waddock Farm. It is considered that the archaeological potential for the Site is low. If the proposed wellsite is on the same site as the previous one then there is no impact on the archaeological resource, as it is likely to have been destroyed or severely disturbed by the construction of the original wellsite in 1982. If the poposed wellsite is sited away from the former wellsite, then the scale of the groundworks is likely to destroy any potential archaeological features on the site.
