Abstract/Summary
The Poole Power Station site lies on the north side of the Hamworthy peninsula (centred on SZ002902). The whole of the site lies on former mudlflats, now covered by Made Ground about 3.0m thick.
Hamworthy peninsula is rich in archaeological remains, particularly of the Iron Age and Roman periods. Several sites can be considered of regional and of national significance. However, no archaeological remains have been recorded from the site itself.
The nature of the topography suggests that any surviving archaeological remains will be deeply buried. However, these are likely to have been scoured away or have been seriously disturbed by the construction of the power station.
It is considered that the site has a low archaeological potential.
