Description

Terrain Archaeology undertook a desk-based assessment of the former Poole Power Station site, in April 2000, to inform on development proposals. A walk-over site survey of the study area took place in April 2000 in order to note any unrecorded features. Although it lies adjacent to important Iron Age and Roman archaeology, no archaeological sites or findspots have been recorded from the site itself, The absence of recorded archaeology from the site, its location on reclaimed saltmarsh, combined with the large amount of ground disturbance associated with the construction of the former power station means that the archaeological potential of this site is low. Any ground disturbance associated with potential development of this site would have to penetrate over 2.8 m below present ground levels to penetrate the stratigraphy underlying the recent Made Ground.
