Abstract/Summary
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned to undertake an archaeological evaluation of a proposed development area at Quarleston Farm (ST 835039). The evaluation consisted of two evaluation trenches excavated by machine on the site of proposed buildings.
Evidence of activity of (probable) later prehistoric date in form of a cremation in a small pit, and of the medieval, post-medieval and modern periods was found. The archaeological features include ditches, walls, wall trenches and small pits or postholes. Finds include 44 sherds of medieval pottery (probably 11th-12th century), building material (medieval to modern), and animal bone, as well as the cremated remains of one adult.
