Abstract/Summary

'Between January and April 2002, Terrain Archaeology carried out a watching brief during the construction of a new LIDL supermarket, off Newbury, Gillingham, on behalf of Jehu projects Ltd. Some evidence of medieval activity was encountered on the eastern boundary of the site, where two pits and a ditch, containing 12th/13th century pottery were observed. Another ditch or pit of similar date was found on the western edge of the site. A possible brick clamp together with a number of clay pits, of probable 19th century date were found on the eastern edge of the site.'
