Description

Terrain Archaeology undertook archaeological observations and recording in 2002 during groundworks associated with the construction of a new LIDL supermarket, off Newbury, Gillingham (TA5097). 'Slight traces of medieval activity were encountered on the eastern boundary of the site. Two pits and a ditch, containing 12th/13th century pottery were observed. Another ditch or pit of similar date was found on the western edge of the site. A possible brick clamp together with a number of clay pits, of probable 19th century date were found on the eastern edge of the site.' [1]
