Abstract/Summary

Report on an archaeological evaluation of land to the east of South Mill Lane, New Zealand, Bridport, undertaken by AC archaeology during September 2003. The site works consisted of four machine-excavated trenches totalling 22.5m in length, one of which was located adjacent to South Mill Lane to determine if evidence for the town's defences were present here. Only a recent sewer pipe was recorded, and modern features only were present in other trenches excavated. The absence of pre-modern deposits confirms that the site lies outside the boundaries of medieval Bridport and the earlier Saxon settlement.
